Parish Council Developments - February 2010

More Good News!

Since our last Newsletter in November a number of further developments have taken place.

 1. We congratulate 15 Orlingbury people who have successfully, trained to take part in the Community Speed Watch Project. They will monitor the speed of vehicles passing through Orlingbury. More Orlingbury Spped watch volunteers will be trained later in the year.

The project is part of a plan to reduce the speed of traffic travelling through Orlingbury and has been put in place in respone to your petition to regulate traffic and make our village safer. Speed sensors will continue to e used on the Isham and Northampton roads and the Police will supervise and independently undertake regular monitoring duties.

As indicated in November, all village signs at the entrance to the village will be replaced with combined speed and village name signs with "gateways" and additonal road markings. The features will be placed beyond present positions to give more warning to road traffic.

2. An Orlingbury Emergency Plan is now close to completion. This ensures that there are eople in the village who are able and prepared to rpovide support to villagers during periods when external emergency services have difficulty reaching the village.

We congratulate 10 people who, funded by village fete funds, have successfully passed a St Johns Ambulance First Aid course and can now provide first aid treatment and support.

Look out for a half day event at the village hall in June when the village Drama group and members of the Parish Emergency Group will provide an entertaining and thought provoking opportunity for villagers of all ages to find out more about the project. A snowbound Orlingbury day will remind you that there are regular instances when community support could be beneficial.

3. The Neighbourhood Watch Group continues to provide a network of street representatives who are able to provide regular support and information to villagers on matters of security. The provision of Smart-Water to households has provided added security.

4. Donations and the Section 106 grant released by the Norlinton Close Developers have already funded, through the aproved Parish Council Plan:

  • New seats and boundary posts on the village green.
  • Parking places with boundary posts opposite the church.
  • A notice board and seat at the top of Rectory Lane.

The next phase of developments to include a centre viallge sign and lectern will now begin.

5. A Youth Group has been asked by the Parish Council to reasearch and come up with a list of images for a centre of village sign and information board. lease support the group who will be laying a key role in this project. As a very committed founder member of this group has stated in his invitation to other young people:

'Please get involved as I think younger people should have a say as we could be seeing these village features for a long time to come.'

You are asked to attend the Annual Parish meeting on the 15th April at 07.30pm at the Village Hall when you will have the opportunity to find out more about the projects listed above as well about the work of the Parish Council. Find out how you may support the Parish Council in making the right decisions on your behalf now and in the future. Your involvement in village matters is always welcomed.
